Essex County, ON – There will be prizes, games, food and fun activities galore at a free family event celebrating active living at the Essex County Civic Centre on Friday, June 14th.
The 6th Annual County Wide Active Transportation System Celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. with activities ranging from Nerf Ninja battles to a bike rodeo. The event will culminate at dusk with an all-ages walk and leisurely Glow Ride. Participating cyclists will need to bring their own bikes and helmets and are encouraged to decorate their bikes prior to the event.
Representatives from Essex County’s local municipalities and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be on hand to celebrate healthy and active living and the expanding trail network that links our communities. There will be games and activities for all ages including a bike rodeo, road hockey, pickle ball, disc golf, large lawn games, safe archery, a bouncy castle and more.
There will also be free food and giveaways. Event participants will have the chance to win a new bike, Apple AirPod headphones, Swell water bottles, tote bags and more. Participants who pre-register on Eventbrite will receive a free T-Shirt.
The County is in the process of updating the CWATS Master Plan, which was developed in 2012, to incorporate best practices and the latest trends in active transportation. The consultant will host a pop-up Open House at the event to gather public input about the CWATS network.
The County Wide Active Transportation System is an ever-expanding network of bicycle lanes, multi-purpose pathways, paved shoulders and shared roadways. It will eventually include about 800 km of active transportation corridors linking the County’s seven local municipalities and connecting with trail systems in Windsor and Chatham-Kent.
