The County of Essex manages the Residential Services Homes program while the City of Windsor manages affordable housing programs for the region.
Residential Services Homes Program
This program helps find affordable housing for low-income adults who need help with daily living. Eleven homes provide housing to more than 200 people in need. Many of these people have experienced homelessness prior to accessing the program.
The Residential Services Homes are located around the county and each offers different services and settings. All homes adhere to the County of Essex Residential Services Homes Program standards, available in English and French.
Applicants must meet five conditions:
- Be over 18
- Have limited assets
- Agree to the placement
- Have a documented medical need
- Complete an application with required documentation
Subsidized clients keep a small allowance each month out of their total income. The maximum monthly income amount is $1,854.00.
Assisted Living
Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario offers services to Essex County residents.
Community Living Essex County also offers services to local residents.
Community Housing and Social Housing
The City of Windsor is the program manager for community and social housing in the region and has approved a 10-year housing and homelessness plan.
The city's Housing Services Department is responsible for developing and maintaining the region's affordable housing stock.
