County Road 42 reopens from Manning Road to Lesperance Road
County Road 42 in Tecumseh has fully reopened to traffic – a month ahead of schedule.
The stretch of County Road 42 westward from the new roundabout at County Road 19 (Manning Road) to Lesperance Road reopened to traffic in both directions Monday ahead of the afternoon rush hour.
County Road 42 is now four lanes wide along this segment – with bike lanes, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, boulevards, landscaping and street lighting from County Road 19 (Manning Road) to Lesperance. This means the four exits off the new roundabout at the intersection of County Road 42 and County Road 19 (Manning) are now all open for the first time. For the past several weeks, the exit westward onto CR 42 had been closed, with the other three exits all open.
County Road 42 reopening fully to traffic – from the City of Windsor eastward through the Town of Tecumseh, and into the Municipality of Lakeshore – will help to alleviate congestion caused in the area by interchange work at the intersection of Banwell Road and County Road 22.
Phase 3 of the County’s multi-year County Road 42 reconstruction project – which began on May 12 – is now complete. It entailed:
- Constructing and completing the new roundabout at Manning Road, which opened Oct. 1 – on time and under budget.
- The widening of County Road 42 from the new roundabout westward to Lesperance Road. Construction on this segment was not expected to be completed until December 2025.
Phase 4 next year will see County Road 42 similarly reconstructed farther westward, from Lesperance Road to County Road 43. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of June 2026.
Phase 5, the final segment of the overall project, involves the reconstruction of County Road 42 farther westward, from County Road 43 to the City of Windsor.
The final cost of the five-phase, multi-year project to upgrade the County Road 42 corridor is expected to reach $90 million to $100 million. Green Infrastructure Partners was awarded the $23-million contract for Phases 3 and 4.
