Construction and Road Closures Update – October 30, 2026

County Road 8 on the Lakeshore/Leamington border will have lane restrictions for road construction from County Road 31 to Hwy 77, beginning Tuesday, November 3.

Meantime, County Road 12 in Essex is now OPEN between County Road 11 (Walker Road) and County Road 15 (just west of Gesto), as rehabilitation of the River Canard Bridge is now complete. Work had begun June 8.

And, as scheduled, following final asphalt resurfacing, County Road 42 was set to reopen Friday night, October 30, between just east of Lauzon Parkway and the roundabout at County Road 43 (Banwell Road) in Tecumseh. This stretch of CR 42 had been closed since Tuesday morning, to allow for the installation of a new watermain crossing all lanes. Thanks to all motorists for your patience this week, as road crews completed a major element of Phase 5 of the County Road 42 rehabilitation project.

This final phase of the County of Essex’s multi-year project to widen and reconstruct the CR 42 corridor in Tecumseh began September 14. Work includes installation of new storm sewers and watermain, plus the addition of new sidewalks, curbs, streetlighting and landscaping – in keeping with enhancements already added to CR 42 from the roundabout at County Road 19 (Manning Road) westward through Lesperance Road, all the way to the roundabout at CR 43 (Banwell).

All major construction activity on Phase 5 is scheduled to continue through December 2026, restarting in Spring 2027. Construction is anticipated to be completed by next summer. For more on the County Road 42 project, check out the project page at our website:
