Construction and Road Closures Update – July 3, 2026
Two new road construction projects are scheduled to begin over the next two Mondays:
County Road 11 (Walker Road) on the Amherstburg-Essex border will have lane restrictions between 6th Concession in Harrow and County Road 18, for culvert replacement. Work is slated to begin this coming Monday, July 6 and is expected to conclude within the week. Traffic will be reduced to one lane. Please be patient, reduce speed in the work zone and follow the directions of flag staff.
County Road 34 in Leamington will be closed between County Road 37 and Kent Road 1, for bridge rehabilitation. Work begins Monday, July 13 and is expected to last approximately 11 weeks. Please use caution and follow the posted detour.
Other County of Essex construction alerts are all continuations:
County Road 12 in Essex is closed, long-term, between County Road 11 (Walker Road) and County Road 15 (just west of Gesto) for rehabilitation of the River Canard Bridge. Work began June 8 and is expected to continue for approximately six months. Please use caution and follow the posted detour.
County Road 42 in Lakeshore remains closed between County Road 35 and Queen Street South (Kent Road 1), for reconstruction of Big Creek Bridge. Work began in February. A reminder that for the remainder of the nine-month project, the County has shifted its detour about 3.5 km to the west, from County Road 37 to County Road 35. Please use caution and follow the posted detour signs!
County Road 35 in Lakeshore, just north of Highway 401 and Comber, has lane restrictions for road construction between Lakeshore Road 305 and Country Road 42. Work began June 30.
The following notices form part of the County Road 42 Phase 4 Construction Project:
- The intersection of County Road 42 and Lesperance Road in Tecumseh has reopened in all directions.
- County Road 42 between Lesperance Rd and County Road 43 (Banwell Road) is still reduced to one lane, with flag staff. Delays should be expected.
