Construction and Road Closures Update – June 12, 2026

This week’s County of Essex construction alerts are all continuations:

Rehabilitation of the River Canard Bridge has compelled long-term closure of County Road 12 in Essex, between County Road 11 (Walker Road) and County Road 15 (just west of Gesto). Work began June 8 and is expected to continue for approximately six months. Please use caution and follow the posted detour.

County Road 20 in Amherstburg has lane restrictions between MUN 1484 and County Road 10, for road construction. Work began June 8.

County Road 42 in Lakeshore remains closed between County Road 35 and Queen Street South (Kent Road 1), for reconstruction of the Big Creek Bridge. For the first four months after work began February 17, the posted detour had used County Road 37. But on June 8 the Ontario Ministry of Transportation closed CR 37 for work they are doing on the CR 37 overpass over Highway 401. Thus, for the remainder of the nine-month Big Creek Bridge project the County has had to shift its detour – about 3.5 km to the west, from CR 37 all the way to County Road 35. Please use caution and follow the posted detour signs!

County Road 27 in Lakeshore has lane restrictions between South Middle Road and MUN 2619 (South Limit of South Woodslee) for construction. Work began May 12.

The following notices form part of the County Road 42 Phase 4 Construction Project:

• The intersection of County Road 42 and Lesperance Road in Tecumseh has reopened in all directions. 
• County Road 42 between Lesperance Rd and County Road 43 (Banwell Road) is still reduced to one lane, with flag staff.  Delays should be expected.
• County Road 42 will be open to two lanes at night. Construction in this section of road is expected to last until late September 2026.
