Construction and Road Closures Update – June 5, 2026
Six-month County Road 12 closure in Essex begins Monday, as does rerouting of County Road 42 detour, to County Road 35
Three projects impacting County of Essex roads begin this coming Monday, June 8:
(1) Rehabilitation of the River Canard Bridge compels the closure of County Road 12 in Essex between County Road 11 (Walker Road) and County Road 15 (just west of Gesto), for approximately six months. That is, until deep into autumn. Please follow the posted detour.
(2) County Road 20 in Amherstburg will have lane restrictions between MUN 1484 and County Road 10, for road construction.
(3) The posted detour for the Big Creek Bridge project in eastern Lakeshore changes Monday, and in a big way. Currently, and since the project to replace Big Creek Bridge on County Road 42 began on February 17, the posted detour for the closure has used County Road 37. But beginning Monday, June 8, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is closing County Road 37 for work they are doing on the CR 37 overpass over Highway 401. Thus, for the remainder of the nine-month Big Creek Bridge project, the County needs to shift its detour – about 3.5 km to the west, from CR 37 all the way to County Road 35. Please use caution and follow the posted detour signs!
Continuing County of Essex construction alerts:
County Road 37 in Lakeshore has lane restrictions between South Middle Road and Lakeshore Road 310, for road construction. Work began June 3.
County Road 42 in Lakeshore has lane restrictions between Aimee Street and Lakeshore Road 129 for road construction. Work began June 4.
County Road 27 in Lakeshore has lane restrictions between South Middle Road and MUN 2619 (South Limit of South Woodslee) for construction. Work began May 12.
The intersection of County Road 42 and Lesperance Road in Tecumseh reopened May 28 in three of four directions: north- and south-bound Lesperance, and eastward onto CR 42. County Road 42 immediately west of Lesperance Road, however, remains closed for a short section, as part of the enhancement and widening of CR 42 to four lanes westward from Lesperance to County Road 43 (Banwell Road). And a reminder to please exercise PATIENCE with line-painting operations. Be prepared to drive slowly, and do NOT drive over the wet paint, to prevent damage to your vehicle.
