Construction and Road Closures Update – May 22, 2026

County Road 12 in Essex to close between Walker Road and County Road 15 starting June 8, for bridge rehabilitation

The next big road construction project to begin in the County of Essex is the rehabilitation of the River Canard Bridge, on County Road 12 in Essex.

This work is scheduled to start a week from this coming Monday, on June 8.

County Road 12 will be closed between County Road 11 (Walker Road) and County Road 15 (just west of Gesto) for approximately six months.

Please follow the posted detour.

And beginning this coming Tuesday, May 26, County Road 8 on the Lakeshore/Kingsville border will have lane restrictions between Cameron Sideroad and Brien Avenue East, for road construction.

Other County of Essex closures are ongoing:

County Road 8 on the Lakeshore/Leamington border has lane restrictions for road construction between County Road 31 and Hwy 77. Work began May 15.

County Road 8 on the Lakeshore/Leamington border has lane restrictions for road construction between County Road 37 and Kent Road 1. Work began May 20.

County Road 46 in Tecumseh has lane restrictions for road construction between 8th Concession and County Road 17. Work began May 21.

County Road 27 in Lakeshore has lane restrictions between South Middle Road and MUN 2619 (South Limit of South Woodslee) for construction. Work began May 12.

The intersection of County Road 42 and Lesperance Road in Tecumseh remains closed for construction, in all four approaching directions. This, to allow for the complete rebuild of the intersection to match the new, widened CR 42 cross-section. When this project began April 20 the anticipated duration of the four-way closure was approximately six weeks. Businesses at the CR 42 & Lesperance intersection remain accessible, via Lesperance.

County Road 42 immediately west of Lesperance Road, to County Road 43 (Banwell Road) in Tecumseh, remains reduced to one lane during the day, with flaggers. This work is to enhance and widen CR 42 to four lanes, and began March 16. Expect delays until the project is completed, likely in late September 2026. CR 42 in this stretch will be open to two lanes at night. For more on this phase of the County Road 42 project, check out the project page at our website: https://www.countyofessex.ca/cr42

County Road 42 much farther east, in Lakeshore, is closed between County Road 37 and Queen Street South (Kent Road 1), for bridge work. This nine-month project began February 17. Please use caution and follow the posted detour.

And a reminder to please exercise PATIENCE with line-painting operations. Be prepared to drive slowly, and do NOT drive over the wet paint, to prevent damage to your vehicle.
