Essex County Council will undertake deliberations and consider adoption of the proposed 2023 Budget on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 4 p. m. Additional Budget Deliberations.
Due to updated federal and provincial guidance related to the importance of masking indoors, issued in response to an autumn surge in respiratory illnesses, the County of Essex is again implementing a masking policy in its facilities. Effective 8 a. m.
As local healthcare leaders, we are united in our concern about the trend of respiratory illnesses in Windsor and Essex County. Relative to previous years, the seasonal flu virus is spreading more quickly and aggressively and our COVID-19 vaccination rates continue to lag behind the provincial average.
The County of Essex and Family Services Windsor-Essex officially opened on Friday a Homelessness Hub in Leamington that will provide support and services to residents in Essex County struggling to find accommodations amidst an accelerating housing and homelessness crisis. “The Essex County Homelessness Hub will provide vital supports to the residents who need it most, offering them hope and a hand up, and it reflects the reality that the housing and homelessness crisis is not simply a big city problem,” said Warden Gary McNamara.
"The County of Essex declared a local emergency Monday following an alarming rise in the frequency and duration of Code Blacks, situations when there are no local ambulances available. To ensure that the record is correct, instances of Code Black are calculated in minutes and totalled 491 minutes during the first two weeks of October compared to 116 minutes in all of September, 77 minutes in August and 31 minutes in July.

Solution to Ambulance Offload Delays Urgently Needed, says Warden. A solution to the mounting impact of ambulance offload delays is urgently needed, Warden Gary McNamara said at the beginning of Wednesday’s regular Essex County council meeting.
The 2022 Essex County Warden's Banquet, honouring the service of Gary McNamara, over the course of the 2018-2022 term of Council will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Ciociaro Club. .
There will be a meeting of Essex County Council on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 7:00 PM. As permitted under By-law 2022-13, a By-law to Amend 41-2018, being a by-law to provide rules governing the order and proceedings of the Council of the Corporation of the County of Essex, adopted on April 20, 2022, the meeting will take place with members of County Council in person at the Essex County Civic Centre, with the option for members to join remotely via web-conference if necessary.
The County of Essex has declared a local emergency in response to persistent ambulance offload delays that are causing situations when there are no ambulances or only a limited number of ambulances available to respond to emergency calls. Warden Gary McNamara activated the declaration at 8:45 a. m.
