The County Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS) is expanding again. In 2026, six more paved shoulder additions totaling 16.7 kilometres will boost the CWATS network to some 580 km.

The first culvert replacement project of 2026 for the County of Essex begins this coming Monday, March 2, 2026, in the Town of Essex – at the Lonsberry Drain Culvert on County Road 50, between County Roads 13 and 23.

Seasonal load limits on designated Essex County roads are now in effect for 2026, and will remain in place while signs are posted. Operators are advised to observe the 5 tonne per axle load-restriction signs on County roads during this period.
